Adding your own bookmarks & reviews

  • You can add bookmarks to your Organise page on Fingatips. Go to your favourite starting page in a particular website, then click on Add review on the Fingatips toolbar on your browser

  • The Fingatips toolbar will then direct you to the Login (if not already logged in) and then the Review page. Here you will see data already collected by Fingatips.com for this site, and you can add to existing data which describes the website, add your views on various aspects of the website, comment on what you like most and least, and recommend changes!!.

  • Alternatively, if you just want to keep a personal bookmark, just submit the review with no added comments.

Organising your bookmarks

  • When you login you are directed to your own Organise page which holds information on your saved bookmarks, communities you have joined, and other members you have established contact with. This page also has links to RSS news feeds from communities that you have subscribed to on Fingatips

  • The bookmarks section can be sorted by Category, Sub Category, Activity or Website name (click on the title of the column you want to sort by) so you can keep a good overview of different types of bookmark in different areas of interest to you.

  • Fingatips holds two levels of bookmark, one for the Website Homepage and one for the specific Bookmark page that you were on when you clicked the toolbar above. You can click on either to go direct to the website page you want.

Finding relevant Websites that others are recommending

  • You can view a list of top ranking websites in a specific category or activity by either clicking on the Find button on the top menu, or by browsing through the categories etc in the menu list on the left hand side

  • If you take the Find option, you can click on the search website radio button and select the categories and activities that you are interested in. When you click search you will see a list of websites ranked by fellow users. Click on the one that interests you most to see the reviews, and click on the link to go directly to the website.

  • If you take the Browse option, just select any combination of category, sub category an activity which interests you. Fingatips will show you a list of options of communities you can view. Select the one that interests you. Once you are in the community you can view the selected RSS news stories and members shared links, read members blogs, or click to view the top 50 ranked websites. If you select the top 50 list, you will see the list of sites similar to the one seen in the Find option, and you can then click on the one that interests you most to see the reviews, and click on the URL link to go directly to the website.

Finding communities that share your interest

  • You can find communities by either clicking the Find tab on the top menu (select search communities radio button), the Browse option described above, or by clicking on the Share tab in the top menu.

  • Once you click on the Share tab, you will be presented with all the categories and the number of communities that are linked to it

  • Click on the number of communities against the category, subcategory or activity that interests you. Fingatips will produce the list of communities with details to help you make a selection of the right one for you

  • Click on the Go to community link, and this takes you straight to the community page.

  • Once you are on a community page you can read everything that is there, e.g. news, blogs or shared links from community members, or click on the website ranking list

  • If you don’t find the community you were looking for, then you can create your own by clicking on create own group in the top right menu. Creating your own group gives you editorial control of news feeds and ability to edit the content of the community page you have created.

Keeping in touch with communities

  • You can do this by clicking the join community button, so this community link then appears in the My communities box in your Organise page

  • Once you have joined a community, you will receive RSS news feeds from that community if you have selected this option on the registration page

  • Members of a community can add their own links to the shared links section, update their own blogs or comment on others blogs in that community

Finding members that share your interest

  • Fingatips protects your privacy by giving you control over how other members can communicate with you. This is handled using a handshake process before members can send messages to each other. Member’s personal details such as email addresses are not given out.

  • This can be done in two ways, click on the Find tab on the top menu (select search members radio button) and following the handshake process, or by clicking on the forums option on the menu in the top right hand corner

  • Once in the forums section, you can view members from a list with details they have provided on their interests etc.

  • You can create your own forum or add to others forums as you wish

Keeping in touch with other members

  • Once the handshake process is complete, the member’s link appears in my contacts box on your Organise page. Click on this link to read and send messages, or click on the inbox option on the top right menu

  • Alternatively you can stay in contact via reading and responding to each others entries on the forums page
